Reference Materials Welcome to the New York State Police Investigators Association

The New York State Police Investigators Association (NYSPIA) is comprised of 1300 members. NYSPIA represents Senior Investigators, Investigators and Investigative Specialists within the Bureau of Criminal Investigation of the N.Y.S. Police. NYSPIA's Board of Directors is comprised of an Executive Board (President, Vice President, and Secretary/Treasurer) along with 10 Troop Delegates. A key component of NYSPIA is its Board of Directors. Unlike the PBA, all positions are voted upon by the membership and any member of NYSPIA in good standing is eligible to run for any position, whether it be president, vice president, secretary/treasurer or troop delegate. Also, the positions are strictly on a voluntary basis - no salary from NYSPIA is received by any officer or delegate on the board. Officers, as well as delegates, are required to perform the duties of their full time job and any union work should be considered as volunteering during "off-time".

Troop Delegates are responsible for the day to day representation of their troop members. Delegates assist their members in representation during any disciplinary actions. They also insure any information distributed by the union is relayed to their troop membership. Each troop delegate has a troop account to be used for discretionary funds for various troop expenses, charitable contributions, etc. As stated in NYSPIA’s constitution, open elections are held for all positions and the length of term for each election is 3 years. To insure statewide representation, each troop elects its own delegate to the Executive Board and the offices of President, Vice President and Secretary Treasurer are voted on by the entire membership. A total of 51% of the votes collected is needed to be elected to the position, even if running unopposed. NYSPIA conducts 10 board meetings throughout the year. The meeting is considered a "traveling board meeting" - each delegate has the opportunity to have a board meeting held within their region. These board meetings are open to the entire membership. Additional meetings may be scheduled at the request of the Executive Board. NYSPIA has an office centrally located in Albany which is utilized by the officers of the organization. All files and records are kept in this office. We are not able to post everything on the website due to legal and confidentiality issues.
